The North American Indian Collection

Texas State University offered to the students the opportunity to expand their knowledge about United States and different collections they have. The collections are located on the 7th floor at the Alkek library in San Marcos, Texas.

Edward S. Curtis was an American photographer whose work focused on the American West and on Native American Peoples. Texas State University shared the amazing treasures.

Several people were admiring the amazing photography’s taken by Edward Curtis. 222 complete sets have been published around the country. Curtis’s goal was not just to photograph but also to document as much of Native American traditional life as possible before that way of life disappeared.

Lyda Guz, events coordinator for the exhibit, was setting up everything for a speech and an event for the next day. She didn’t say much about the collections but said she is happy that students have the initiative to go and enjoy what the school offers. She said it’s always good for people to learn to appreciate the beauty of such amazing photography.

Princess Angeline also known as “Kikisoblu”. This photo was taken on December 1895. S. Angeline Street on Seattle’s Beacon Hill and in Columbia City and Seward Park was named after Princess Angeline.

Edward Sheriff Curtis published The North American Indian between 1907 and 1930. .

There is a lot of faces in the collection, from several people with different age, sex and different looks.

The work comprises twenty volumes of narrative text and photogravure images. Each volume is accompanied by a portfolio of large photogravure plates

Lupita Acosta a former student at Texas State University said she went to the collections to kill time but ended up learning so much about the American Indian culture, she said it was really interesting to see how different things used to be from now.
