Since the very beginning of COVID-19 back in March 2020, bedrooms have become the new classrooms. After waking up, students may sit at their desks in the morning and attend classes through Zoom. I personally sit at my desk for hours working on assignments or doing a puzzle. Next, I continue my day by running a few errands. I try not to leave my home unless it is absolutely necessary. As a precaution when I do leave my home, I keep a tote bag in my car filled with disinfectant wipes, face masks and hand sanitizer. My roommate, Texas State student Ashley Velazquez, and I made our first stop at a gas station. Pumping gas during the pandemic has not changed very much and although masks are not absolutely required to pump gas, Ashley always wears hers. As an extra precaution, Ashley also uses disinfectant wipes to disinfect the gas pump before she fills up her car with gas. Although this is not an everyday thing, on this day my roommate and I voted at the Texas State University polling place after pumping gas. The line was short, and we felt a sense of pride by participating in our democracy. Being inside during the pandemic can get boring and exhausting. Before COVID-19 I would visit the local skatepark, but that is no longer an option. Now, my roommate and I skateboard at skate spots we’ve found around town while socially distanced from everyone else. We made our way back to the apartment after skateboarding and I took my roommate’s dog, Patty, out to play. She loves her pink ball and is always anxiously awaiting to fetch it. Towards the end of the day, I made my way to H-E-B to pick up an H-E-B Curbside grocery order. H-E-B Curbside is a safe and efficient way to get groceries during the pandemic. Placing your order online and picking it up at your desired time makes the shopping process quicker. A new COVID-19 routine that I participate in after grocery shopping is disinfecting all of my grocery items. Other people that go grocery shopping will sometimes grab an item and put it back, so disinfecting my pre-packaged food is another way to be safe from any bacteria. Similarly to the pre-packaged items, I also wash all of my produce. This is definitely a bonus because my fruits and vegetables are clean and ready to eat whenever I want! Lastly, after a long day of errands, my roommates and I end the night by doing our laundry. Due to COVID-19, we try to wash our clothes more often than usual. We wash them soon after being out in public or among people. We try to do anything we can to stay safe!
