SAN MARCOS — As students approach the last week of the 2024 Fall semester, winter break is almost here bringing in a much needed break from schoolwork. Texas State University students are leaving San Marcos, the Lone Star State and even the country to embrace the winter season with outdoor adventure. Whether that be skiing or snowboarding, students are finding all sorts of fun ways to make their winter memorable.

William Genitempo, a senior at Texas State University, explains where he plans on going over the break and why he looks forward to his trip.

“Over the break me and a few of my friends are going to Park City, it should be fun. I think what most excites me is definitely the snow and getting to ski with some of my close friends,” Genitempo said.

Not just focused on the ski slopes, Genitempo also explains that there are a widespread of activities in and around Park City that are suitable for all ages.

“Other than skiing I really enjoyed the tubing hill at Woodward Park City. Last time I went I took my younger cousins on it and we all had a blast,” Genitempo said.

Aden Ludeke, a junior at Texas State University, decided to spend his time during the break at his family’s property in Caldwell, Texas. He plans on going shooting with his dad, riding four-wheelers with his cousins and enjoying quality time with his family in nature.

“My family has some property out in Caldwell that we always go to. It’s really fun and I get to do a lot of fun stuff with my dad and extended family. We always bring our guns and fun toys, it’s always nice being out in nature, especially with cooler weather,” Ludeke said.

Brandon VanOstrand, a sophomore at Texas State University, plans to go snowboarding over the break in Telluride, Colorado. This is his second time going to Telluride and is really looking forward to trying out some new tricks he has learned.

“Last year when I went to Telluride I was trying some new tricks on my board that I hope to land this trip,” VanOstrand said.

VanOstrand had not a single bad word about Telluride and the Rocky Mountains, stating that it’s the perfect escape from Texas. Also noting that it’s the perfect place for a thrill-seeker.

“It really is beautiful out there and I can’t wait to be back. As an adrenaline junkie it doesn’t get much better than this,” VanOstrand said
