Texas State University has had parking issues for many years now, especially with the continued increase of freshmen students living on-campus. This gradual increase of student enrollment has led to fewer parking spaces available for others which results in more students having to rely on the Bobcat shuttles.
TXST Student Parking vs Student Enrollment by Connor Reid
At the start of the day, the shuttles are not as busy. Students who have class in the morning tend to be lucky since they don’t have to deal with the over crowdedness students typically see later on in the day. (Photo credit: Connor Reid)With the limited space available on the Bobcat Shuttles, students typically waste no time securing a seat. On Fridays however, the shuttles are typically not as busy. (Photo credit: Connor Reid)Around 3 p.m., most students are done with classes for the day. They find their way to one of the bus stops to return home, with less student traffic coming onto campus. (Photo credit: Connor Reid)A plethora of students go to and from campus daily and many students experience such congested traveling conditions on a regular basis. Some students even have to wait until the next shuttle arrives in order to catch a ride to school without it being over-crowded (Photo credit: Connor Reid)Texas State has a fleet of more than 70 shuttles that stop at 12 locations across campus, including the Undergraduate Academic Center. This stop in particular, is one of the more busier ones during the day. (Photo credit: Connor Reid)As Texas State students catch a ride on the already crowded shuttle, some have to risk it and choose to stand on the stairway in order to get to class on time, despite this being unsafe. The shuttles can hold 58 people yet some have to stand on the stairs. (Photo credit: Connor Reid)The Undergraduate Academic Center (UAC) bus stop has a lot of foot traffic throughout most days. This was captured when a shuttle driver was on break, around 1 p.m. when the bus stop was not at its peak. (Photo credit: Connor Reid) Students wait for one of the many shuttles at the Quad bus stop. This particular stop has multiple waiting areas to accommodate for the different shuttle routes available. (Photo credit: Connor Reid)Texas State University has around 8,607 parking spaces available to students. With nearly 40,000 students attending, parking has been an ongoing issue for at least the past three years with record-setting freshmen classes.
