Photo essay by Ryan Horky San Marcos First Baptist Church located off Martin Luther King Dr to receive One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars From Grant Lorenzo Martinez is the owner of a restaurant next to the church. Martinez is happy to see the church is finally going to be getting a proper restoration. Martinez mentioned the last time the city said they were going to restore it they just boarded up all the windows and open holes. Martinez has lived by the church over 15 years and says he hasn’t been inside the church in 5 years. The right side of the building has Comanche Street next to it. Casa De Don Lorenzo is the store that Martinez owns. it is across Comanche street on the left of the church. The left side of the church has a historical landmark next to it. The front of the church is facing Martin Luther King Blvd. The church has been vacant since 1986. The church is struggling with restoration because they don’t have room to put parking. Currently it is too dangerous inside the church due to the floor falling out because of water damage. The back of the church has a small home next to it. The church has been neglected. over the years you can see alot of damage across the church. The church has been vandalized numerous times.
