SAN MARCOS– Texas State University (TXST) has added new establishments throughout the last few years, recently students have complained about the new constructions’ projects around campus.
New housing establishments have been announced to go under construction, which means TXST is expecting a higher number of freshmen class for Fall 2025. This past year, TXST students have complained about overcrowded classrooms and struggle to register for classes due to the high number of students. Along with new dorms, TXST is also adding to their projects the new construction of the STEM building, expanding the football end zone, a new dining hall, and pitching labs along with some batting cages.

As well as upcoming constructions, TXST has recently opened two brand-new dorm halls located in the same property but there are two buildings separated, Alamito Hall has a capacity of 505 beds and a total of seven floors, Cibolo Hall has a capacity of 501 beds and seven floors. These dorms started construction in June 2019 and due to COVID the project had to be paused until May 2022 when it resumed until June 28th, 2024.
Texas State freshman student, Emma Jenkins was one of the many students from the record-breaking freshman class, who got located in Alamito Hall for his first year at TXST. Alamito Hall is located near Alkek Library, LBJ, and the quad, its location is one of the biggest benefits for all students living there.
“I could not imagine not living in this dorm,” Jenkins said. “ location wise it is so close to all of my classes, it’s close to any food cafeteria, the library or even the student center where they have all the events for freshmen, where they have all the resources as well, I just love how new it is, I love how its high tech and I get to be one of the first ones to experience it”.
A lot of the changes that have happened at TXST since COVID have two main goals which are becoming research one university and focusing on student success. The addition of resources on campus such as the upcoming STEM classroom, makes TXST one of the main options students look to apply to when it comes to this big decision. Along with the numerous options of on-campus housing, dining halls, and the opportunities to join a great organization/ club.

The addition of these contructions and renovations around campus are visions that TXST faculty have pictured for the longest time, even students looking forward to everything that is now being under construction. TXST University’s President Kelly Damphousse, admires the buildings being built up from his office, and enjoys seeing students experience these changes at TXST.
“I think the students are really excited about the progress,” Damphousse said. “I love looking out the window and seeing the cranes of the new buildings, I’m looking out my window right now there’s a football stadium out there, we had a crane out there for several months, were building that up as well.”
The expansion of the end zone at the UFCU stadium has been in constructions phase since October 2023. This project has a lot of promising and upgraded renovations for staff members, athletes, and alumni. This expansion includes a new weight-room for the athletes, an alumni pavilion, bigger locker room, new meeting rooms and many other renovations.
“Our students and then future alumni when they come back to campus will get to experience to a lot of great things because of the construction projects we are having here on campus.” Damphousse said.
As students come and go, upperclassmen get to advice the newer classes according to their own experiences, they have also seen many of the new changes that are coming to campus. Keilani DeLuna is a senior who graduates in Spring 2025. She spent all four years at TXST and has a lot of advice to share with the newer upcoming class during Fall 2025.
“As a senior graduating on May 8th, 2025, I got to experience so many new things around campus,” DeLuna said. “One thing I do regret is not getting involved in events that were happening on campus for students, if you’re an incoming freshman, a transfer student or even a current student, you need to get out there and get to know people, enjoy all of the resources this school has for its students.”
Texas State University has grown more than expected during the last couple of years, many changes will keep coming to TXST along with better resources for all stude
