High school seniors across the United States are facing the cancelation of many milestone events.
Due to COVID-19 spreading around the world, Americans are being ordered to practice social distancing. Since they have been advised against gathering in groups larger than 10 people, many high school events have been canceled, such as prom, senior trips and graduation.
Celia Ratcliff, a high school senior at Cinco Ranch High School in Katy, Texas, said she was looking forward to several events in the next few months, but she especially wanted to walk the stage at graduation and spend time with her friends before they left for separate colleges.
“I was looking forward to graduating. I was excited to have that accomplishment after putting in the work for four years,” Ratcliff said. “I was ready for it to be over and to have that validation, and now I don’t.”
Katy Independent School District posted an announcement on their website to keep students and parents informed on changes made to district policies and closures. After Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order about the closure of Texas schools, the district announced that all KISD schools would be closed until May 4.
