Immigration is a topic that has been discussed a lot in today’s society causing a misconception. Several immigration attorneys and a Texas State student answered questions about immigration at the Truth About Immigration event hosted by Common Experience to help students better understand immigration concerns as they pertain to our university.
This event was held at the UAC on November 20,2019 at 6 p.m. To make students feel more comfortable, students were divided into small groups to talk with each expert. There were a variety of topics discussed within immigration, however, DACA was one of the most popular.
DACA is a program that recognizes undocumented individuals through a certain criterion with a legal presence, not legal status. This program allows individuals to work in our economy, receive financial aid and government issued identification for 2 years.
Texas State has a DACA task force to help students with this process. Students can receive help or voice their opinions with the Office of Student Diversity & Inclusion or the Counseling Center.
